MEMBERSHIP

When you have decided you would like to become a Rainbow girl, your first step is to make your wishes known to someone who belongs to an assembly in your town.  This could also be a Master Mason, a member of the Eastern Star or Amaranth if you are acquainted with someone who is active in that assembly.

After this initial step you have begun your search for the pot of gold this is said to be at the end of the Rainbow.  Even though there may be storms in your life, Rainbow will help you to find the treasures that are awaiting you if just give of yourself and are willing to put its lessons into practice.

Membership is selective which in effect is a protection to the organization.  Any girl may petition with approval of her parents after she is 11 years of age and until she reaches her 20th year.  Her acceptance is subject to the approval of a member or an adult advisor and then, to the vote of the assembly.  There are no restrictions as to the girls’ parents being members of Eastern Star, Masons, or Amaranth even though they are sponsors of the assemblies.  It is not required that a girl belong to a certain church.  The Order of the Rainbow for Girls does not show any favoritism or preference to either.  Everyone is treated as an equal, their advancement being based on individual effort and accomplishment.

After the active Rainbow years if a girl is in good standing in the Order, she is presented with a majority certificate, which enables her to attend all meetings, but she does not hold office or vote.  If she should marry before she reaches the age of 20 she is presented with a marriage majority.
